Observatory A was completed at Franconia Sculpture Park (FSP website) over the span of two residencies in the summers of 2012 and 2015. The sculpture is both an observation telescope to the heavens and a marker of time. Each year on August 8th at 4:00pm the sun aligns with the telescope and marks a circle of light in the shadow of the sculpture.
.The 1500 pound cast iron tube was created in a 20,000 pound sand mold. The following images show the unique process used to complete the project.
