Photographic documentation of site specific performance

Cast Iron, Resin Bonded Sand and Earth

20 ft x 75 ft x 12 ft

2015

Aspects of this work are rooted in ideas centered on markers of time, brief moments of description, a ritual of being and a site-specific context connected to the histories of place. A dialogue exists between the man-made histories of forgotten mining communities in the Colorado Rockies as well as in the geological histories of the landscapes they existed in. Erosion lines, ore veins, mining trails, and abandoned roadways have become a linear fascination in my work. This series is part performance and ritual and part site-specific, ephemeral land art. Tracing these lines in the landscape with molten iron speaks a language that celebrates our primordial and ritualistic relationship to the elements as well as describes a darker, environmental reflection.
